Critical Manufacturing, a pioneer in future-ready, multi-site manufacturing execution systems (MES), has announced a strategic collaboration with Red Hat, the world’s leading provider of enterprise open-source solutions, to pave the way for greater innovation within the industrial sector and deliver solutions to support the deployment of MES based on open-source technology.

Red Hat delivers industry leading open hybrid cloud solutions across public and private cloud environments, from the datacenter to the edge, with a broad portfolio of hybrid cloud infrastructure, application services, cloud-native application development, and automation solutions.

Adélio Fernandes, Vice President of Technology, Critical Manufacturing, said, “We are delighted to collaborate with Red Hat in an industrial environment. Red Hat is a world leader, and its approach to open-source innovation fits perfectly with our MES, which is designed for enterprise-wide, global deployments.”

Critical Manufacturing MES V9 uses the DevOps Center and containers technology to enable MES deployment within a matter of minutes in the cloud, on-premises or across hybrid infrastructures. Red Hat collaborated with Critical Manufacturing following a request from its customer, Lumentum.

Shobhan Lakkapragada, senior director, Edge Business Expansion, Red Hat, commented, “Red Hat is pleased to collaborate with Critical Manufacturing to bring flexible, scalable open-source solutions to industrial customers such as Lumentum. By combining our industry leading solutions such as Red Hat OpenShift with Critical Manufacturing’s future-ready systems, we can help customers adopt cloud-native applications while streamlining operations in order to achieve better business outcomes faster.”

Lumentum delivers innovative photonics to accelerate the speed and scale of cloud, networking, advanced manufacturing, and 3D sensing applications.

“With Lumentum’s commitment to Kubernetes as our container orchestration platform and Red Hat being a market leader in that space, it was easy choice to select RedHat OpenShift as the Kubernetes platform to support a system as important as the MES provided by Critical Manufacturing.” commented Ralph Loura, CIO at Lumentum.

Critical Manufacturing’s MES is certified to run on Red Hat Openshift, the industry’s leading enterprise Kubernetes platform. Critical Manufacturing and Red Hat plan to collaborate to deliver a combined offering for customers to run MES in Kubernetes, providing a consistent experience regardless where it is deployed – on-premises or in the cloud.
