Tom Kavanagh, General Manager at subsidence repair and ground improvement UK specialist Mainmark Ground Engineering UK, has been appointed Vice Chair of the sector-leading Subsidence Forum Committee.
The Subsidence Forum, is a collaborative network of organisations and individuals managing insured subsidence risk, including homeowners, local authorities, insurers, repairers, and industry professionals.
Its Executive Committee, led by Chair Paul Duddle, champions dialogue around subsidence, striving to build a shared knowledge hub to elevate standards and quality across the sector.
Tom brings over 20 years of international experience in civil and construction engineering, delivering complex projects across four continents. Originally from Australia, he has held diverse roles from project management to tunnelling consultancy on flagship projects like Thames Tideway and Crossrail, and major international works in Kenya, Sri Lanka and Azerbaijan.
Tom moved to the UK in 2008 and chaired the British Tunnelling Society Young Members, solidifying his focus on innovation in geotechnical performance.
Tom comments: “I’m proud to be appointed Vice Chair of the Subsidence Forum. With two decades in ground engineering, I look forward to fostering smarter approaches to soil stabilisation, foundation underpinning, and subsidence repair. The Forum plays a crucial role in addressing challenges like clay shrinkage and property subsidence using modern techniques such as resin injection, root barriers and piling.
“As a sustainability advocate, I’m committed to working with Paul to promote broader participation, from loss adjusters to environmental consultants, and to champion greener underpinning foundations methods and ground improvement technologies.”
Since joining Mainmark in 2022, Tom has led the UK division deploying the same market-leading solutions that made the company a trusted name in Australia and New Zealand. These solutions include re-levelling, void-filling, and sinkhole repair using sustainable materials such as Teretek® resin and cellular concrete.
Paul Duddle, Chair of Subsidence Forum Committee said: “I’m delighted – along with the rest of the Forum – to welcome Tom Kavanagh as our newly appointed Vice Chair.
“Tom has been a consistently engaged and active member, and his dedication to the Current Affairs Group has been outstanding.
