A record number of visitors attended the first dedicated self-build event of the year (in February) a market sector which is worth £3.6 billion.

After announcing its partnership with the National Self Build & Renovation Centre (NSBRC) ground engineering specialist, Mainmark UK, made its debut at the center’s first event of the year.

The NSBRC in Swindon is the UK’s only permanent visitor center, housing over 200 stands, designed to support self-builders, renovators and home improvers.

This year’s Winter Show was the busiest the centre has hosted in the last seven years, attracting nearly 3,000 visitors, including 155 junior self-builders – an increase of over 16.3 per cent on last January’s event.

The event enabled Mainmark to directly provide project specific advice for visitors and give live demonstrations of its advanced technologies for addressing sub-structural issues like subsidence.

Business Development Manager, John McBey, who was on the Mainmark stand for the event comments: “The number of houses at risk of subsidence and similar sub-structural issues is expected to rise by 27 per cent by 2050, which presents a major concern for self-builders, renovators, and home improvers. So, this reputable event was an excellent opportunity for us enhance awareness around such issues and speak to those requiring advice or our services and solutions face-to-face.”

This new exhibiting partnership between Mainmark and the NSBRC will allow the firm to directly share its expertise with those in the self-build and renovation market, ensuring they can identify the signs of sub-structural issues such as subsidence, understand its impact on projects, and know how to address a problem if present.

Subsidence occurs when the ground beneath a building sinks and can be caused by multiple factors, including adverse weather conditions like heatwaves, which excessively dries the soil, and heavy rain, which washes it out. Ultimately, the stability and safety of a structure can be severely impacted, which in turn can cause financial burdens and impact project timelines.

Continuing a string of successful events, Mainmark previously appeared at Grand Designs Live in October as the event’s official subsidence partner. Showcasing its depth of expertise in ground engineering solutions, the firm took centre stage leading discussions and showcasing its Teretek® resin injection technology, while its stand of advisors were on hand to guide homeowners facing their own subsidence challenges.

Grand Designs Live is the leading home design and renovation exhibition that takes place every two years and is attended by leading construction, lifestyle and self-build brands.
