Starting the year demonstrating its continued commitment to sustainability Russell Roof Tiles has created a new role of Corporate Sustainability and Development Director.

Russell Roof Tiles (RRT), is the leading independent manufacturer of concrete roof tiles. This new senior role reflects the company’s dedication to sustainability.

Dan Hancox who has been at the firm for 14 years – most recently as Business Support Manager takes on the new position, helping lead and shape RRT’s sustainability strategy which has been central to the business for more than 10 years.

In his position as Corporate Sustainability and Development Director, Dan will maintain a critical role in promoting sustainable business practices for RRT alongside directing operations for plastic manufacturing and developing resale product opportunities.

Russell Roof Tiles has been a pioneer in its efforts and actions towards sustainability, with many other manufacturers now recognising the importance of reducing their environmental impact and promoting sustainability.

Over the last two years, the company has already made significant steps towards its Net Zero 2040 target by procuring 100 per cent renewable electricity at all three sites, in which Dan has been heavily involved.

This comes in addition to electrifying the majority of their mobile plant fleet, driving the business towards electrification and decarbonisation.

Dan commented: “It’s an honour to be moving into this new role. I’m looking forward to using this opportunity to drive Russell Roof Tiles towards a more sustainable future.”

This year, Dan and the wider team will be assessing the supply chain, product range and distribution network to understand where they can have a larger influence or impact on their Scope 3 emissions.

With the support of Planet Mark, which is an internationally recognised accreditation that a business can use to report on its carbon footprint and demonstrate progress, Russell Roof Tiles will be able to verify a baseline from known data.

Andrew Hayward, Managing Director at Russell Roof Tiles said: “Over the last decade Dan has shown real commitment and dedication to the company and his contribution to the business and the team is second to none. Although this is a new position for our company, it’s certainly not a new area of focus for us. The knowledge and experience that he’s already gained puts him in the perfect position to take on the responsibility of our Corporate Sustainability and Development Director and help to strengthen our sustainability goals for the future.”

The firm’s continuous development has recently seen them announce £18.5m investment in a state-of-the-art plant at its Burton headquarters which will double output.

This is the largest single investment since the firm was acquired in 2011. Since then, RRT has seen £17.3m invested in its three sites, continuing to increase efficiencies and capacity to meet demand.
